Melina Pyrgou, Board Member, Invest Cyprus

Melina Pyrgou is the managing director of Pyrgou Vakis Law Firm and is a practising lawyer with 28 years of experience. She studied law in the UK and was called to the Bar both in England and in Cyprus. In 2007 she joined PricewaterhouseCoopers as Director of Legal Services and in 2008 left to establish Pyrgou Law firm. In 2014 Pyrgou Law Firm was renamed to Pyrgou Vakis Law Firm, after a partnership between Melina Pyrgou, Demetris Vakis (of Christos Vakis & Co a firm that had been established for over 50 years) and Despo Andreou. Melina has been acting for more than 10 years as country expert for projects of the European Commission in relation to transposition and implementation of EU legislation in particular in the field of the environment but also others. She was listed in “Legal 500” EMEA 2016 and 2017 as “Recommended Lawyer” in the areas of Commercial, Corporate and M&A. She has served on numerous boards over the years and is currently an appointed Board member of the Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency (November 2019), an appointed member of the Disciplinary Committee of Accountants of Cyprus (December 2016), member of the Legal Council (appointed by the Attorney-General) and an appointed member of the Board of the Health Insurance Organisation.

George Campanellas

George Campanellas, CEO, Invest Cyprus
George Campanellas is the CEO of Invest Cyprus since May 2018 and the Vice President of the Cyprus Investment Funds Association (CIFA). He has more than sixteen years of professional experience in Cyprus and abroad, working with the DG Competition in Brussels and directly with the Cypriot Ministers of Health and Energy, Commerce, Industry & Tourism. For a number of years, George has been actively involved with the development of the hydrocarbons sector in Cyprus’ EEZ, dealing with licensing, exploration and exploitation activities, as well as promoting bilateral and multilateral cooperation at a regional level. He has also been actively involved with drafting the regulatory framework and running the relevant licensing procedures for attracting FDI in sectors of strategic importance and large-scale infrastructure projects, such as the LNG terminal at Vasilikos Energy Centre, Cyprus Techno Park, EuroAsia Interconnector and the City of Dreams Mediterranean, Europe’s largest integrated casino resort and Cyprus’ largest FDI project.

Stephanie Panayi, Investment Promotion Officer, TourInvest Unit, Invest Cyprus
Stephanie Panayi is an Investment Promotion Officer, leading the TourInvest Unit. She joined Invest Cyprus in 2019. She is experienced in the field of foreign direct investment, investor relations management, business development and investment promotion. Her role is focused on identifying and promoting investment opportunities available in Cyprus and ensuring the channeling of information to existing or potential investors, through coordination and implementation of strategies to attract businesses and investments into Cyprus. Stephanie holds a Bachelor’ s Degree in Applied Foreign Languages and a Master’ s Degree in MSc International Management & Business. Stephanie is also the Young BPW Cyprus Representative of the Cyprus Federation of Business and Professional Women (BPW). She is fluent in Greek, English and French and conversant in Russian.

Petros Liassides specializes in the provision of tax compliance, tax advisory services as well as transaction tax services to local and multinational companies. He holds a U.K. Bachelor’s degree (B.A. Hon’s) in Accounting Finance & Economics and is a U.K. trained and qualified Chartered Accountant. He is a Fellow Member (FCA) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW) and an active member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus (ICPAC) since 1996, currently chairing it’s Tax Compliance Committee.

Konstantinos Xanthis is the Head of Wealth Management Operations of Eurobank Cyprus since July 2016. Kostas has a professional experience of more than 20 years in the Banking and Finance industry with an in-depth knowledge of the Capital Markets, Securities and Funds Industry. Prior to joining Eurobank Cyprus, he held various positions in the Eurobank Group’s Capital Markets & Wealth Management General Division and more specifically in the Securities Services Sector. He graduated from the University of South Carolina, Columbia with a BSc in Business Finance and has an MBA from ALBA Business School in Athens, Greece. He also holds an advance certificate for Investment Services from CySec.

Christos Charalambides, Tax Advisory Partner, PwC Cyprus
Christos Charalambides is a Partner in Tax Advisory Services of PwC Cyprus with professional experience of more than 18 years in dealing with the tax affairs of an extensive client portfolio of international and local clients, including large MNCs focusing on the Cypriot, US and European markets. Christos is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and is a graduate of University of California, US (BA (honors) Business Economics). His industry specialization includes Communications and Technology, Financial Services, Real Estate/ Construction, Funds, Oil and Gas, Commodities and Retail. Christos’ experience covers a wide range of taxation services including advisory work on local and international transactions, group restructurings, tax planning, M&A work as well as direct tax compliance work. He also has a role in the PwC tax technical team providing support to the government on the introduction of new legislation provisions as well as the PwC tax policy panel. Christos is a member of the Cyprus-Canada and Cyprus-South Africa business associations which are under the auspices of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

Sunil Kapoor, Director, FML Ship Management LTD
Sunil Kapoor is the Director of FML Ship Management in Cyprus, a Caravel Group Company. Sunil has an engineering background with a degree in Marine Engineering from DMET, Calcutta. His career begun at the Shipping Corporation of India – India’s state Shipping Company. He spent most of his time at sea from 1981 to 1992. In his last three years he sailed as Chief Engineer. In 1993 he moved to Lloyds Register, India as a Surveyor for about three years. Sunil joined Fleet Management Limited, Hong Kong in 1996 as a Technical Superintendent and gradually rose to the role of Director. While there, he was actively involved in all aspects of Technical Management and in New Building supervisions of Reefers/Container vessels/Chemical Tankers in Japanese and Korean Shipyards. Sunil shifted to Cyprus in 2007 to set up the company’s branch office in Nicosia. He is responsible for day-to-day operations of London, Turkey & Dubai offices. In 2015, FML Ship Management LTD was awarded with the International Investment award, CIPA. Sunil is a board member of Governors of Cyprus Maritime Academy affiliated to University of Nicosia, a board member of the Cyprus Marine Club in Limassol and he sits on the Technical committees of all the major Classification societies.

Andreas Yiasemides

Andreas Yiasemides, President, Cyprus Investment Funds Association
Andreas Yiasemides is the President of the Cyprus Investment Funds Association (CIFA) and a Partner at PwC Cyprus, in charge of the Fund Services of the organisation. On his graduation from the University of Manchester with a first class degree in Economics, he joined PwC in 1999 and qualified as a Chartered Accountant (FCA). He continued his career with the Bank of Cyprus, holding various positions including heading the Custody and Trusts Unit. He then moved on to an organisation of professional services where he set up and led the Fund Services Unit. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Cyprus and of the Central Bank of Cyprus as well as the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Investment Funds Association (CIFA). He is also Vice Chairman of the Cyprus National Advisory Council of Charter Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI). Andreas Yiasemides has also been elected as the President of the Cyprus India Business Association.

Antonis Rouvas

Antonis Rouvas, Board Member, Asset Management, Advisory Services, KPMG in Cyprus
Antonis Rouvas is a Board Member at the Asset Management, Advisory Services of KPMG Ltd in Cyprus. He graduated from Wake Forest University, North Carolina, USA with a BSc (High Honors) in Business and Mathematics and holds the professional titles FCA (ICAEW) and AMCT (Association of Corporate Treasurers, UK). He worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers in London and then for the multinational Credit Suisse in a number of posts, starting from Singapore with final appointment in London. In 2004, he joined KPMG as a Partner, based in Nicosia. In 2008 he was appointed as Chief Financial Officer of Hellenic Bank Group. Andri Michael is a Partner at Kinanis LLC. She has joined the firm in 2005 and her main areas of practice, for over 10 years, included corporate law, banking and finance, funds and capital markets. For the past few years, Andri has been leading the Financial Services and Funds department of Kinanis LLC focusing mainly on legal advisory, formation and regulatory compliance for collective investment structures and other licensed entities. George Karatzias is a senior manager and is heading the fund services side of Alter Domus (Cyprus) Limited. George is a member of the Board of Directors at CIFA and serves as the vice-chairman of the Fund administrators committee. He is also a member of the Funds committee of the ICPAC. He specialises in the fund administration of private equity, real estate and debt funds primarily as well as any ancillary services required by investment structures in the middle-back office space. He is a Fellow member of ACCA and holds a Master in Marketing and Financial Services from the University of Exeter, he has received a number of academic awards during his student years
